scorpaenidae
Scorpionfish (family Scorpaenidae) are well-camouflaged marine fish that blend into rocks and coral. They are venomous, using sharp dorsal spines for defense, but are not aggressive. These fish are ambush predators, striking quickly at nearby prey, and often “walk” along the seafloor using their fins. The group includes over 200 species—like lionfish—and they mainly live in warm waters of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
